Titans Pursuit Of A Title Cut Short

Titans Pursuit Of A Title Cut Short

The Titans were hoping to win the state tournament this past weekend at Boombah Soldier Creek. It all started on Friday when the Titans (35-24) took on the Patriots of Central Florida. Central Florida took an early 1-0 lead after Infielder Kamaya Cohen doubled to center field getting the RBI allowing her teammate Centerfielder Gianna Guerriero to score. The Titans responded in the top of the second off of the bat of SPC's own Alyssa Rano who homered to center left gaining an RBI in the process. The Titans were held scoreless through 2 innings as the Patriots scored 1 in the 3rd to a 2-1 lead. SPC responded with 3 runs of their own in the top of the fifth from Emma Blatchley, Karleigh Curtis off a Patriots error, and Alyson Lucas who scored courtesy Isabella Huff's single into left. It seemed as if the Titans were going to take control of the game until the bottom of the fifth when Central Florida responded with 4 runs and 1 more in the 6th to seal the victory. The loss for the Titans moved them into the loser's bracket and faced Miami Dade on Saturday after the Sharks fell to Pensacola State on Friday afternoon. In the elimination game, Miami Dade jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third but, were shutout the rest of the game as the Titans battled back scoring 1 in the bottom of the fifth from Samantha Wilson thanks to an RBI by Kelsey Kudlub and 2 in the bottom of the 7th by Abigail Dickson and Samantha Wilson to eliminate the Sharks. There wasn't much time to celebrate as the Titans had to prepare for another elimination game. SPC was now facing tough odds by trying to defeat their nemesis in the Buccaneers of Florida Southwestern. The Bucs were also facing elimination after winning on Friday defeating Chipola but, falling to Seminole State on Saturday. The Titans and Bucs met on Sunday morning and much like the regular season, Florida Southwestern dominated the Titans once again scoring in the first 3 innings (2 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, and 9 in the 3rd) to seal the game in 5 innings eliminating the Titans.
