Where are they now - Chelsea Smithback

For this installment of Where are they now, we are going to look at Former Women's Tennis player Chelsea Smithback who played for Coach Phil Girardi from 2012-2014 was apart of two teams that went on to the National Tournament where she made it to the semifinals and quarterfinals respectively.  A Titan award winner in 2013 in addition to the academic award and the coveted Jovana Vasic Leadership award.  In addition to her success on the court, Chelsea had success in the classroom and was a member of the St Petersburg College Honors College.

Chelsea came to St Petersburg College from Wurzburg, Germany but graduated high school from Saddlebrook Prep in Florida.  When asked if she could talk about Head Coach Phil Girardi and why she chose SPC over others in the recruiting process Smithback responded, "I chose SPC because of the great location, the coach seemed great, and they gave me the best scholarship package.  Coach Phil is a great coach.  He was always so understanding with all the girls.  He made practice fun.  For a lot of the girls on the team it was our first time being able to see some other states through tennis.  He made time for us during tournaments to be able to enjoy where we were, and because of that the memories from our tournaments are that much better."

Currently Chelsea is entering her Senior Year at Holy Names University in Oakland, California.  When asked about her time at SPC Chelsea said, "The professors were so engaging and helpful and I was able to find great mentors while I was there.  The people I met there have been so incredibly helpful in shaping my life, and SPC was truly an incredible opportunity."
