Titans Split Series On Sophomore Night

St. Petersburg College softball celebrated its annual Sophomore Night on Tuesday evening at Eddie C Moore Softball Complex. The Titans (32-22) recognized 7 Titans in Karleigh Curtis, Shelby Jones, Isabella Huff, Jade Frank, Alyssa Rano, Lindsey Maresca, and Madison Wells. These sophomores were honored as they and  team squared off against the Hawks of Hillsborough Community College. These ladies celebrated with their coaches, teammates and families during a special ceremony in between games 1 and 2. As for the games themselves the Titans came out swinging in game 1 with outfielder Abigail Dickson hitting a solo home run high into right field to take an early 1-0 lead. A pair of runs later by the Titans resulted in SPC taking a 3-0 at the end of the 1st inning. Dickson had a great night adding to her home run with 2 more runs  on 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 2 balls on base. A pair of sophomores in Madison Wells and Isabella Huff led the team in RBI's on the night with 2 a piece as the Titans went on to win game 1 by a score of 7-1. Pitching was terrific on the night with Shelby Jones. The sophomore through 7 innings pitched a near perfect game with 7 strikeouts, while giving up 8 hits and a run. However, it was a very different story in game 2 as the Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st. As the game went on the Hawks kept the Titans at bay shutting their offense down which eventually led to a 3-0 shutout to split the series between these 2 inning in their final meeting of season. Pitcher Lindsey Maresca struggled as she gave up 3 runs off 4 hits which resulted in her being replaced by Isabella Hamilton who through 5 innings pitched produced 5 strikeouts. St. Petersburg College finishes their home slate with a 21-9 home record and a 4-1 record against HCC. The Titans will conclude their season Thursday at Polk State in Winter Haven. First pitch for their doubleheader against the Eagles is set for 4pm.
