Williams wins Player of the Week Honor

Williams wins Player of the Week Honor

Hitting a baseball is often considered to be one of the most challenging acts in all of sports. However, there are stretches of games when a player finds his right swing in important moments to help his team when it matters most. St Petersburg's Chris Williams found himself in many of these moments last week and excelled in virtually of all them.

Williams, a Management and Organizational Leadership major from local Boca Ciega High School had a week to remember on the diamond. At the plate he hit two home runs, a triple and a double all while accumulating 10 runs batted in with a batting average of .500. Williams powered the Titans to their most successful week on the season, contributing to a 4-1 record. The team and personal accolades leave no question as to why Williams was named the Region 8 Player of the Week by coaches throughout the NJCAA in the state of Florida.

Williams attests his recent success to the advice of the coaching staff "we've just talked about staying loose and trusting my abilities at the plate. It all comes down to using my hands and enabling my bat speed to do the work for me".  When asked about his favorite moment during his memorable run, Williams says the two-homerun game against Pasco Hernando State College will always stand out in his mind as a great team win.

Head Coach Ryan Beckman lauds over the possibilities of Chris Williams' career, " there are no limits as to how far he can go and how long he can stick around the game. One day he's going to be able to tell one heck of a story"

As for the rest of the season, Williams intends to continue competing on the field with his teammates and working towards creating many more homeruns and happy memories in a Titans uniform.
